My new setup ended up with the pistons a bit out of the hole, so I need some new head gaskets. Cometic, or ???

Bill? Anyone?

I have some that are either .055" or .060" they are Cometics, new in package. $140 shipped.

OK, is there a way to tell what the exact compressed thickness will be? Does it say what they are on the package?

I guess I should have checked the back

The back of the package says .060"

Before I saw the writing on the back, I measured with a caliper (not exact because the raised portions won't completely compress) and got less than .060", like ~.054", thus my .055"-.060" figure.

I would try & find a Cometic that will work.I know you can get Detroits in the thickers, but I'm not too impressed with those.
Was your block cut down more than you thought?

With old TRW forgings and stock rods, the block was decked so that they were .010" in the hole. I have forgotten how much was removed. With CAT rods, JE pistons, and a crank turn, they are now averaging .019" out of the hole. The JE's are supposed to be .010" higher than the TRWs, but there is .029" to account for here. Not sure what happened, there may be an intake fit problem now as well.

BTW, oldsfab, you have a PM!

Can you pull the piston back out & mill some off the tops?Either that,or switch blocks.

I'm just a poor boy, so I am going to buy the .060 gaskets from oldsfab, and worry about the intake later. There's no way I want to give up on this fully prepped block now.

Thanks oldsfab!

Just so everyone will know, these gaskets came in a very timely fashion, and were extremely well packed! I'm thrilled! :D

I bet you never got lumber with head gaskets before

I got my packing skills from A442DUDE

Glad they came in good.
